AARHUS - Danish billiards star Charlotte Sörensen (42) is not only the new European champion in three cushion after Saturday, she was already the world three-cushion champion and also the world number 1 now. That position was Therese Klompenhouwer’s domain for many years, but is now in Danish hands. Sörensen is leader with 230 ranking points, Klompenhouwer is second with 158 ahead of Karina Jetten with 127.

Kozoom asked the new number 1 early this morning after the success at the European championships for a short follow-up.

The Danish Billiards Federation wrote an admiring article about the champion this Sunday morning. "It's really true, Charlotte has done it again, a big and heartwarming applause. How proud we are. Many thanks to Charlotte's coach Tonny Carlsen and all the people who made this tournament a great success.''

Kozoom: What does the No 1 position mean, for the first time in your career?

Charlotte: I am number one seeded for the World Championships, but beyond that I don't know. For the World Games, I have no idea yet.

Kozoom: What is the cash prize for this title? Winning the World Championships brought 10,000 euros.

Charlotte: The European Championships 2,000 euros.
Kozoom: What is the consequence of your new status as first ranked player in the world? A lot of publicity in Denmark?

Charlotte: I read in the message from the Danish federation that it offers a lot of new opportunities. And there will definitely be some interviews this week, although I have a lack of time.

Kozoom: What does the new champion do on the day after success. How is your top sports interest, for example, do you watch the Danish riders in the Tour of Flanders, a heyday in cycling?

Charlotte: I’m very sports interested and follow all Danish top sports. Cycling is not my favorite sport, but surely are tennis and badminton.

Kozoom: Like Therese Klompenhouwer, are you not interested in a Korean adventure, the PBA?

Charlotte: I don't have any offer or information about the PBA, so I don't know anything about it. Billiards has always been a big hobby. I have always worked full-time, always loved doing it, but working fewer hours would be a dream. I think, anyway, I wouldn't want all that travelling to Korea because I don't want to be away from my family for so long, especially now that my niece has a baby daughter that I want to be close to.

Kozoom: What was your last drink late last night after winning the title? And the first one on the morning after the success?

Charlotte: A Mohito in the evening and water in the morning.

Kozoom: Three, four years ago, you switched to three-cushion. What were your successes in the career before that, in Danish pool?

Charlotte: Two times European champion 8-ball and straight-pool, seven European medals in total in pool and won Eurotour for ladies twice.

Thank you, enjoy your week.
