CAPELLE - The Dutch Grand Prix three-cushion in Capelle today, Saturday, goes to the end with 16 players in one marathon of matches. The 16 remaining players after the two days with 32 play in knock-out matches to the final match starting this Saturday morning (11am). Dick Jaspers opens this morning against Gerwin Valentijn, Jean Paul de Bruijn against Raymund Swertz, names of some contenders for the Dutch Grand Prix win.
The unbeaten winners in the four groups of eight for the final qualification were Dick Jaspers (6 match points, 1.690), Jean van Erp (1.276), Adrie Demming (1.250), Kay de Zwart (1.188), Harrie van de Ven (1.142) and Frans van Schaik (1.025). The highest runs came in the name of Jeffrey Jorissen (13), Joey de Kok (12), who were both eliminated, Dick Jaspers, Raymund Swertz and Adrie Demming (11).
Dick Jaspers had the best average with 1.690 followed by Raymund Swertz with 1.611, Barry van Bers with 1.451, Gerwin Valentijn with 1.423, Jean Paul de Bruijn with 1.360 and Raimond Burgman with 1.356.
The players with 'Masters ambitions' missing the final day were Jeffrey Jorissen (2 points, 1.253), Sam van Etten (2, 1.295) and Joey de Kok (2, 1.044). The youngest of the players on Friday, Joris van 't Zelfden, seemed to be on his way to the knockouts, but stumbled on 1 carom against Sam van Etten.
On Friday (the second part of four groups of four, after the first four on Wednesday), Jean Paul de Bruijn was the winner in Group C ahead of Jack van Peer. The Zeeland encounter between Jeepee and Joris van 't Zelfden, his pupil, ended in 40-26 in 25 for the master. Barry van Beers won in Group C with 4 points, the same as Volkan Cetin, who came second with a slightly lower average. Kay de Zwart remained in Group D just ahead of Dave Christiani in match points (6) and average (1.188). In Group E, Jean van Erp won against Raimond Burgman 40-38 in 36 to become group winner.
