SEOUL – The successes of 60-year-old Semih Sayginer in the PBA tour follow his team's victory in the final team round. The Phoenix team, in which Dani Sánchez is an important leader, triumphed after a strong final sprint. Semih Sayginer himself also survived the first rounds in the individual tournament that started this week. Dani Sánchez was eliminated in a battle with Dae-sik Jung.
In the women's individual tournament, leaders Ga-young Kim and Sruong Pheavy have now qualified for the semifinals. Cambodian Pheavy is in great form, while Korean Ga-young Kim is the most successful player in the PBA women's division. Ga-young Kim defeated former UMB champion Orie Hida of Japan 3-2 in the quarter finals.
The individual tournament has already lost many big names in the early rounds. The Spanish are continuing without Juan David Zapata, Antonio Montes, and Dani Sánchez, while even more players have been eliminated for the Turks: Burak Hashas, Adnan Yüksel, and Can Capak in the first two rounds, as well as Savas Bulut and Lütfi Cenet. Other well-known names that have been eliminated are Jae-ho Cho and Eddy Leppens.
David Martinez and Semih Sayginer are among the contenders entering the final rounds. That also applies to Japan's Yusuke Mori, a previous winner, Choong Bok Lee, Duc Anh Chien Nguyen, and Nguyen Quoc Nguyen, who played the best game in the first rounds with an average of 3,214.
