ANKARA - Following the men's World championship, with Vietnamese Bao as the sensational winner, the 11th women's World Championship starts today (Tuesday). The tournament is over three days and will be played at the headquarters of the Turkish Billiards Federation (TBF). There are 24 participants selected from four federations: CEB (12 players), CPB (5), ACBC (6) and AMECC (1). They are divided into eight groups of three and Dutch Therese Klompenhouwer (five-time world champion) is the favorite successor.
Matches will be played to 25 points during the group stage (with the best two players in each group qualifying for the next round) and then to 30 points from the final stage, which starts in the round of 16. Apart from Therese Klompenhouwer, the top favorite, the outsiders are:
Haeun Kim and Lee Shin-young from Korea, Bien Duong Phung and Nhi Hoangyen Nguyen from Vietnam, Gülsen Degener and Guzin Müjde Karakasli from Turkey, Noriko Fukao and Yuko Nishimoto from Japan and Charlotte Soerensen from Denmark.
Matches will be played on 12 September from 10am to about 9pm, on 13 September from 11am to 6pm and on 14 September from 10am to 4pm (Western European time).
